Over 400 historians, government officials, and architects will travel from all over Iowa to Davenport this fall. This week, the city announced it’ll host the state-wide historic preservation conference in September.

Community Planner Ryan Rusnak says it’s the first year Davenport will hold the Preserve Iowa Summit.
He says Davenport’s downtown has improved due to historic preservation.

Rusnak says the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs granted Davenport $12,000 for the conference. But, the city still has to find money for food, advertising, and guest speakers.

And, he says the summit will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act.

He hopes to find a keynote speaker to talk about the historic preservation movement.

Rusnak says the city will create a committee to choose venues and programming. The Preserve Iowa Summit will take place September 7th through the 11th.
